Make Learning Fun and Interactive

Children use ICT’s in many aspects of their social lives as a form of entertainment and enjoyment (Byron, 2008).

Integrating ICT’s into your children’s education increases the overall enjoyment and engagement level of their mathematics lesson as, not only is it in a form they can relate to, it is allowing your children to become involved in their learning.

Before ICT’s the primary sources of teaching mathematics were through textbooks and worksheets which, as I’m sure all you parents can remember, were seen as boring and did not involve the students in their learning. There are now numerous ICT’s, such as interactive whiteboards, which are being used to involve your children in their learning, which is also improving the way your child views, engages and succeeds in mathematics (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, n.d.).

Mathematics lessons are being taught primarily through interactive whiteboards, which encourages hands on learning and group work, and through laptops and IPads rather than through textbooks and worksheets.

Internet based website programs such as ‘Mathletics’ are being used by students to develop their mathematics knowledge and skills. See the below video on what Mathletics is.

Would you rather learn place value from a standard worksheet or through an interactive whiteboard lesson? Watch the video below showing a demonstration of how the interactive white board is used in classrooms.

What does this look like in the classroom?
